Trainee Group

Luke is a second seat trainee solicitor at DLA Piper UK LLP in the London office. He has experience in Commercial and Technology Disputes as a paralegal and an interest in the regulation and technology surrounding cryptocurrency, blockchain and AI. While studying he wrote academic essays on possible regulation which could be applied to FAANG companies to reduce their dominance which has been brought about by network effects and data analysis. He has also focused on the possible business opportunities which DAO structures can offer entrepreneurs.  

Naomi is a third-seat trainee solicitor at Bristows, currently sitting with the Commercial IP/IT/Data Protection team. Following her experience of working for Intercom, Naomi pursued an LLM in Innovation, Technology and the Law. She is particularly interested in artificial intelligence, having written essays and articles in relation to the risks of discrimination by the use of AI in decision-making and the implications of generative AI for copyright law.

Olivia is a newly qualified solicitor, with a wealth of experience in commercial and contract law, and a keen interest in emerging technology and data privacy. Olivia is also a member of the SCL’s Women in Tech Law Committee, and PR Lead on the Cambridgeshire Junior Lawyers Division. In her spare time, Olivia loves to read, write, cook, dance and play the piano.

Dana is a Trainee Solicitor at DLA Piper, where she experienced working with some of the most well-known technology-driven gig economy market players. She has a particular interest in how the advancements in technology are revolutionising legal practice by fundamentally challenging and changing the functioning of the legal market.

Evie is a first-year Solicitor Apprentice at DLA Piper, currently sitting with the Real Estate Finance and Sport Finance team in the London office. While studying, she wrote academic essays exploring technological advancements and their intersectionality with law and is interested in how law firms keep apace to changes in an environment that is constantly evolving.

Hannah El-Gazzar is a trainee solicitor at Fieldfisher. Hannah did her first seat in Personal Injury and Medical Negligence and is about to start her second seat in Tech & Date. Tech and data are areas of interest to Hannah due to having previously been a paralegal prior to joining Fieldfisher at The Financial Times and Paragon Customer Communications, giving her exposure to a realm of tech and data issues she enjoyed solving for these businesses. Outside of work Hannah enjoys exercising, watching films and baking!

Alex is an in-house Trainee Solicitor at BNP Paribas and currently sits within their Digital and IP team. He has prior legal experience working in FinTech and in September 2022, he started a part-time masters in AI Ethics at the University of Cambridge. He is particularly interested in the intersection between AI and the laws of intellectual property, data protection, and contract.

Leo is a second-seat trainee solicitor at Baker McKenzie in the London office, having done his first seat in the firm’s intellectual property, technology and data team. He has previous experience in banking and finance, data protection, and general commercial matters as a paralegal in the UK and Australia, where he gained much of his interest in the technology sector – in particular, he developed interests around AI and FinTech from his studies abroad and worked for a number of years for a blockchain charity. He has contributed to articles on the use of AI in banking, and changes to data protection and cybersecurity laws.

Nabiel works in corporate and commercial law at a specialist technology branch of a regional law firm in Leeds. Nabiel is actively learning about techlaw related matters and sees himself qualifying as a lawyer advising predominantly upon commercial IT agreements, as well as corporate-related matters for digital businesses. He is to start his training contract in 2023. Outside of work, Nabiel has a keen interest in tech gadgets and builds his own gaming PCs from scratch.

Patrick is a first seat trainee solicitor at Bristows LLP, currently sitting with the Patent Litigation team. He has previous experience working for an aerospace engineering company and his MEng research project focused on the development of various machine learning algorithms. Patrick has a particular interest in how AI will interface with the law in the future, particularly surrounding ownership and legal personalities

Ivan is a trainee solicitor at Clifford Chance, sitting in the Derivatives and Structured Products team, having joined in February 2022 sitting first in Litigation & Dispute Resolution and then spending 6 months in Brussels working in Antitrust. He previously worked in several cyber security consulting roles, including research and development into AI capabilities and cryptography. He is Secretary of the specialist Committee on AI for the City of London Law Society, and sits on the legal advisory board for an innovative tech-driven arbitration start-up; pinqDR. Outside of work Ivan enjoys kickboxing, tennis, and is starting to re-learn the piano.

Crystal is a trainee solicitor at DLA Piper, having started the training contract in August 2021, with an interest in how the law evolves to keep apace with technological change, and the role law firms play in shaping regulation. Whilst completing the LLB at the University of Liverpool, Crystal studied how the law is developing to keep apace with advances in AI, and the ethical challenges that the use of AI in legal services may present. During her first seat, Crystal published an article discussing the English law position on cryptoassets and has undertaken work relating to fintech.

Rubab joined Bristows as a trainee solicitor in September 2022, and is currently working in the brands, designs and copyright team. Prior to joining Bristows, Rubab completed her MSc in Biotechnology at the University of Manchester.
