SCL Adjudication Procedure: a new adjudication procedure for the resolution of technology disputes in England & Wales
The Society for Computers and Law (SCL) is very pleased to announce that the new adjudication procedure for the resolution of technology disputes in England & Wales will be launched at a special event on Tuesday 15 October 2019 at Arundel House, London.
The scheme is the result of considerable work by a small group of SCL members, the panel outlined above, over the past two years, growing out of the SCL Better Contracts Initiative.

SCL Women in Tech Law
SCL Women in Tech Law Group -SCL WiTL’s mission is to advance, celebrate and connect women in technology law, across private practice, companies, academia and the legal technology sector.The First 100 Years : We Need a Hero! – to celebrate the first 100 years of women lawyers, SCL is inviting people to nominate a female tech law hero.
SCL Women in Tech Law Survey – The SCL WiTL Group have put together a short survey aimed at gauging women’s experience of working in tech and law.
Women in Tech Speaker Resource – ‘Disrupting the Manels’ – we are putting together a list of fantastic volunteer female speakers that offers an alternative to men-only speaker panels and shines a light on women who might not have had the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience at techlaw events.
SCL Student Tech Law Challenge
An annual competition launched in 2018 aimed at giving students a taste of a day-in-the-life of a tech lawyer. The challenges are devised and set by the SCL Junior Lawyers’ Group and teams compete against each other in a mock-negotiation and a data breach scenario. They are guided and evaluated by a panel of expert volunteer mentors with the winners each receiving a week of work experience at a top legal tech firm.

- The Society was established as a registered charity on 11 September 1973 under the leadership of its first President, Lord Scarman and celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special dinner at the House of Commons in 2013.
- One of SCL’s major achievements was the establishment of BAILII (British and Irish Legal Information Institute) following a meeting arranged by SCL in London on 8 November 1999.
- SCL was a founder member organisation of IFCLA (International Federation of Computer Law Associations) and hosted their biannual conference in Bath in 1994, Oxford in 2004 and London in 2016.
- Since its inception in 1973 SCL has attracted many enthusiastic and innovative leaders including Lord Scarman, Lord Saville, Sir Brian Neill, Sir Henry Brooke, Theodore Ruoff, Professor Richard Susskind OBE and Professor Christopher Reed amongst others.
